    • In 1931, at the age of 18, Carl left Union City, Oklahoma and went to New Market, Iowa where his brother, Walter E. lived. In July of 1936, he left New Market and went to Woodward, Iowa and started work as an attendant at Woodward State Hospital. Grace Patricia Rambo was also working at Woodward State Hospital and both were promoted to supervisors immediately after being married. In 1937, he transfered to another state hospital in Mount Pleasant. In June of 1937, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa for a very short period (three days) and went on to a state hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He returned to Des Moines at the end of August, 1937. From there he went to Gravity, Iowa and hauled coal from a coal mine all winter. The next spring he moved back to Des Moines and got a job with U.S. Rubber. He left Des Moines in 1945 for Clay Center, Nebraska when the U.S. Rubber plant closed. He helped start a stainless steel factory and then moved to Bethany, Oklahoma in 1947. He worked for Firestone Tire and rubber for two years. He started work at a Las Vegas service station in 1949 and in 1951 he bought the service station. He retired in 1973.
