George Wesley McMullin was born Wednesday, 05 October 1859 in Payson, Utah, Utah to Willard Glover and Mary Ann Holmes McMullin.

Willard Glover McMullin was converted to the Mormon Church and baptized by Wilford Woodruff while in Maine. An interesting sideline is that my 4th great grandpa Zera Pulsipher baptized Wilford Woodruff. Wilford Woodruff then went on a mission to Maine and baptized one of my great-great grandpas Willard Glover McMullin.

Following Willard Glover's exodus west with the Saints, he was called on a mission to England. A convert from England by the name of Mary Ann Holmes traveled to America on the same ship as Willard Glover. She became his third wife. Around 1857 the family settled in Payson where Willard Glover taught school and was the official baptizer for the community. It was here that George Wesley was born.

An interesting fact is that Willard Glover and his second wife Martha had a son named Brigham Young McMullin. Brigham married Ada Parker who was an aunt to Robert LeRoy Parker, better known as Butch Cassidy. She being a sister to his father Robert Parker. It is reported that Butch Cassidy was buried next to a close relative, Robert McMullin in Johnny, Nevada.

Willard Glover McMullin was called to help colonize Dixie and he moved his family to Harrisburg, Washington, Utah in December of 1862 when great-grandpa was three years old. Not much is known about great-grandpa. Willard Glover's history says that following his work on the St. George Temple that he took his older sons, which would be great-grandpa, to Pioche, Nevada where they had a wood-cutting contract. This then fits with the fact that great-grandpa worked at the Delamar Mine southwest of Caliente, Nevada. They seemed to go wherever there was work to be had to support their families. The comment has been made "that the McMullin's practically built Silver Reef". Now whether or not great-grandpa was himself involved in that effort is not known. Willard Glover's history does state that he and his boys worked in Silver Reef.

We do know that great-grandpa was in St. David, Cochise, Arizona in October of 1887. Whether he actually was living there at the time and what he was doing there I don't know. He married Florence Mae Oakden on 19 October that year in St. David. They were living back in St. George by February 1890 for the birth of their first child. Children born to George Wesley and Florence Mae include:

      Florence 6 Feb 1890
      Sarah (Sade) 2 Nov 1891
      George Douglas 6 Sep 1893
      Olivia 6 Aug 1895
      Willard John 8 Sep 1897
      18 Feb 1898
      Hyla 13 Nov 1898

Great-grandpa died on Tuesday, 4 April 1898 of something called Delamar Dust. Whether it was sudden or whether he had been sick for a while, I don't know. He left a widow and four young children. Hyla was born seven months following his death and Willard John had died two months prior to his death.

He was buried in St. George, Washington, Utah on 7 April 1898. In later years his children bought and had a marker placed on his grave. It is located at Lot 94, Block D, Plat A, burial #1011 City Records.

Church records show a baptism date of 3 April 1981 by proxy. I am almost certain that he was baptized as a child. Great-grandma had his temple work done and she and the family sealed to him on 23 Sept 1898 in the St. George Temple before leaving. Hyla was, therefore, born in the covenant.

There is some speculation that the McMullin family also migrated to the Carbon and Emery Counties. A McMullin was the first mayor of Wellington. Great-grandpa's younger brother, Frank was a resident of Roosevelt or Randlett near Vernal.
As a child, I never really knew my grandma to know much of anything about her dad's side of the family. We would periodically take a weekend trip to St. George with her. To my knowledge, there was never any attempt on her part to locate members of his family. How much contact great-grandma had with the family I have no idea.

George married (2) Flora Bryson, but there were no known children from that marriage.
